There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities aside from the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
