There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
