There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
